Federal XMT556TNB1 Ammo 62 Grain Open Tip Boat Tail 5.56mm NATO 20 Round Box.
The new 5.56mm "barrier blind" ammunition recently released by Federal ATK was developed to enhance terminal performance and optimized for a shorter 14" barrel platform. The new SOST round from Federal Cartridge was engineered for the USMC as a supplemental replacement round with a better terminal characteristics over standard M855 ammunition. Designated as MK318 MOD-0 the round was designed to defeat barriers with superior penetration and better ballistic stability when shooting through glass, car doors and other barriers. This round utilizes a 62 grain open tip boat tail hollow point bullet with a lead core and reverse copper jacket creating the open tip.
